Niko’s Steak Burger and Greek Food – Vista, CA

Niko buger

For this review we (Mike) failed in epic fashion at Nikos Steak Burgers and Greek Food. Yeah, like that combo really goes hand and hand (duh!). Helping us fail this fail was our guest reviewer Jennifer Munson. The failure began failing almost immediately when Mike made a left turn into a familiar Home Depot parking lot that Greg and Troy instantly recognized from a previous burgering experience gone bad. The fact that we did not review Niko’s the first time through should have said something, but since “forgetful” Mike had both the steering wheel and the method of payment, we were pretty much stuck. So we walked in, stood in line, placed our order and then waited. When we say waited, I mean, we waited.  All we had to do to pass the time was to stare at the crappy holiday decorations. Finally, after almost 20 minutes, we were greeted by a classic wax-paper-in-a-plastic-basket, totally uninspiring steak burger (the species of said steak still has us guessing; see post burger comments below). Once we dove in, the flashback of disappointment came flying back. The burger was overcooked and the bun was almost stale. If there was one success it would be the burger to bun ratio, but that was not enough to raise the bar to even mediocre. Sadly, this burger (generously) earned a 2.55 on the UBR rating system. What about the fries? Also a 2.5 since they were undercooked, and unevenly seasoned kind of like it was done in one big, disproportionate dump (like Mike on the toilet). Additionally, the post burger experience was on the problematic side from the moment we set foot in the parking lot. Not good!  At this point, Greg and Troy should have had Jennifer Munson “Munson” (Kingpin movie reference) Mike over the thought of ever returning to this place for a review. For the record, Niko’s is a popular and busy lunch spot, but the smart people were ordering the Gyros. So it still could be a good call for breakfast or lunch, but just don’t order the burger.

Our intent is to let people know when a place serves us burgers that suck (or not). We provided a link back to our site to help inform other people in their quest for the perfect burger experience. I do understand your point though and we’ll take heed of your comment for future Yelp reviews.
